This Spinal Tumours module of the Spine Surgery Education Programme from eccElearning deals with primary and secondary (metastasic) tumours of the spine and of the spinal canal. It is one of nine modules of the Spine Surgery Diploma.

What you will cover in this Module

This Module treats most of the rarely seen primary tumours, malignant as well as benign tumours such as osteoid osteoma, eosinophilic granuloma, giant cell tumors, aneurysmal bone cyst, Ewing Sarcoma, chondrosarcoma of the spine, as well as ependymoma and chordoma at the craniocervical junction and in the sacrum.

Different surgical technique issues are looked at for the different locations and neoplastic disease like multiple myeloma are equally presented, as are intradural extramedullary spinal tumours.

A whole section is dedicated to the diagnosis, staging and surgical treatment of metastatic spine disease and its results.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand biology and pathophysiology of neoplastic conditions affecting the spinal column and associated neural structures.
  2. Enable case based selection of appropriate imaging and laboratory diagnostic work up for patients presenting with primary and secondary neoplastic conditions of the spinal column and associated neural structures
  3. Formulate evidence based treatment strategies for primary and secondary neoplastic conditions of the spine in accordance with principles of stability, curative or palliative intent and neoplastic aggression.

Q: What is an eccElearning Module?

A: eccElearning Modules are in-depth surgical education courses focused on a specific area of expertise - for example, Spine Trauma or Spine Tumours. They contain 13-23 online spine surgery Lectures and all materials associated with them, including narrated Lecture presentations, assessments, downloadable references (Deluxe Package only), and the Certificate Examination. You can work towards the full Spine Surgery Diploma by completing all the relevant Modules.

Q: What does a Module include?

A: Modules are made up of 13-23 online spine surgery Lectures relevant to the Module area. This means you get all online Lecture Presentations, downloadable references (Deluxe Packages only), pre- and post- learning assessments, and the Module Examination. You will have access to all these materials for 3 months - if you buy subsequent Modules, access will extend up to a maximum of 24 Months.

Q: Is there a final exam?

A: All our Modules have a final 1-hour Multiple-Choice Question Examination. The Examination is only able to be taken once all the Lecture Assessments for that Module have been completed successfully.

Q: Is there a time limit for completing a Module?

A: Yes, you have a study period of 3 Months, though typical completion time is 2 Months. If you buy subsequent Modules within this time, your access will be extended by a further 3 Months per Module, up to a maximum of 24 Months.
