In this spine surgery lecture, the surgical management of cervical radiculopathy is covered. The discussion is mainly focused on two procedures: Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion (ACDF), and posterior foraminotomy with decompression. The steps of the anterior procedure are described in detail, starting from patient positioning to post operative management. This is followed by a discussion of the complications occurring at each step and how these can be avoided. The posterior approach is described with relevance to minimally invasive access and outcomes presented, followed by a discussion of the limitations of the procedure. The outcomes of the procedures are elaborated with reference to established articles, and the surgical steps are described in detail with the aid of short, focused surgical videos. The lecture concludes with guidance for selecting the correct approach for treatment.
