What you will cover in this lecture
This spine surgery lecture includes a discussion of the management of sacral fractures. An overview is given of the anatomy and classification systems used to classify fractures of the pelvis and sacrum, followed by a look at the percutaneous screw placement technique. Also discussed is the management of difficult cases where patients have sustained complex patterns of injuries, including pelvis and lumbosacral junction fractures in normal and poor bone quality. The situations are discussed in which there may be a higher chance of complications and need for revisions, so that necessary steps can be taken at the time of surgery to avoid these outcomes. Finally, the cases where conservative management is more appropriate are examined.
