The disorders which can affect the spinal cord, both acute and chronic, are outlined, and the strategy to make an accurate assessment in an acute setting is explained. The clinical tests which can help study each tract are explained in a systematic manner. Finally, the differential diagnosis and various disorders affecting the cord are outlined.
