In this spine surgery lecture, the non-operative management of axial neck pain is covered.
Non-invasive treatment modalities of axial neck pain are described, including postural modification, oral medications, cervical collar, home stretching exercises, physical therapy, spinal manipulation, massage, acupuncture and injection therapies. For each modality, the author gives a brief description and the procedure. The effectiveness of each therapy is discussed in light of the clinical evidence.
Non-invasive adjunct therapies such as low level laser therapy, TENS, pulsed electromagnetic therapy and cognitive behaviour therapy are also mentioned.
